Job Description

Job Title: Section Manager-Engineering

Department: MCR-Engineering

Reports To: Direct Manager-Engineering

Status: Independent Contractor

Environment: Drug Free Workplace

Location: Kincardine, ON (Hybrid)

ROLE OVERVIEW:

Provide support to the immediate supervisor in managing the Section in accordance with applicable legislation, policies, programs, procedures, and agreements while supporting the following activities: Provide oversight for work group performance, milestones, metrics, production, deliverables, budget, training, and development to ensure Section meets business plan requirements. Provide problem-solving, corrective actions, and troubleshooting expertise.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired through the completion of 4 years of a university degree (Grade XII plus 5 years) in Engineering and by being a CEAB (Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board) graduate or a non-CEAB graduate with verified academic credentials. An Ontario Professional Engineering designation is required (P. Eng.)
  • Perform staff mentoring, coaching, and observation, pre/post-job briefs to ensure work is conducted safely, efficiently, and technically accurate and that staff are competent and qualified to complete required tasks.
  • Provide day-to-day coordination across the Section. Perform staff Performance Planning and Reviews, Development Plan reviews, and Engineering Fundamental reviews.
  • Conduct staff appraisals/feedback/discipline/observation and coaching and initiate any action necessary to correct any adverse trends. Ensure staff are being developed both in technical and leadership skills. Recognize staff for outstanding performance.
  • Participate in the selection of new/replacement staff.
  • Monitor/influence activities internal to the Department to ensure technical responsibilities and Bruce Power priorities are met.
  • Provide management supervision and technical oversight in support of the Corrective Action Program and resultant actions. Coordinator work activities with interfacing Bruce Power Sections to ensure Major Component Replacement (MCR) Project milestones are met.
  • Oversee technical discussions with equipment manufacturers, suppliers, contractors, and various internal departments as required.
  • Oversee management of augmented or managed staff contracts and provide work direction. As directed by the immediate supervisor, attend meetings on behalf of the Section.
  • As directed by the immediate supervisor, provide oversight for improvement initiatives including benchmarking and self-assessments.
  • Support the immediate supervisor in financial responsibilities including participation in budget preparation monitoring meetings and cost control including budget and overtime.
  • Accept acting roles and duties as required in the absence of an immediate supervisor.
  • Be responsible for all other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or above.
  • Demonstrate stewardship of assets and resources.
  • Ensure staff awareness and application of Human Performance Tools for Knowledge Workers.
  • Ensure staff capability is maintained, including the use of Knowledge Transfer when applicable.
  • Participates in MCR High Impact Teams and/or Issue Response Teams as required.
  • Specific Functional Responsibilities in the area of Design / Engineering Change Control: Support the manager by providing technical expertise in the design of reactor process systems, structures, or components.
  • Deliver design outputs in accordance with approved standards and procedures Temporary and Permanent Modifications.
  • Provide oversight and approval of design work prepared by others in order to maintain design expertise for the safe design and operation of the facility.
  • Maintain design basis information in accordance with corporate standards and BP-PROG-10. 01, Plant Design Basis Management.

ENGAGEMENT SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Typical workweek is 40 hours a week with additional hours to sustain schedule, (this is a Multi Project/Program delivery Environment), Monday through Friday.
  • Some roles may require travel to visit supplier locations when travel is permitted.
  • Mileage and expenses reimbursed for business-related travel.
  • Must be willing and able to pass strict and high-level security background screening.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Proven ability to meet deadlines with grace under pressure.
  • Ability to establish excellent working relationships with both internal and external contacts.
  • Excellent level of written, verbal and presentation skills.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
  • A period of over 8 years and up to and including 10 years of progressive management experience in Engineering or relevant field in a nuclear facility is considered necessary to gain this experience. Knowledge of business operations, organization, functions, operating policies and procedures, regulations, and license requirements.
  • Record of accomplishment of high performance, determination, and effort.
  • A keen eye for detail, commitment to quality, and positive outlook.

Pre-engagement Requirements:

· All employees and contractors selected to work with Bruce Power will be required to complete and successfully receive Level 1 Security Clearance through the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS). This involves a comprehensive background screening and providing detailed supporting documentations for the last five years of history on all employment, self-employment, gaps of employment, places/countries of residence, international travels, and character references. All offers of engagement are contingent upon successful Security Clearance.
